There is no sound playing in the applet

    1.5.0, 6.0



SYMPTOMS

There is no sound playing when running certain applets. Often users may be playing a game applet with sound missing in it.


CAUSE

This error is found when running the applet with Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 5.0 and 5.0 Update 1 (or 1.5.0 and 1.5.0_01) versions. A bug in the JRE caused this problem. This bug has been resolved in JRE 5.0 Update 2.


SOLUTION

  1. Find out the JRE version by running the testvm applet: Test your Java Virtual Machine (JVM)
  2. If the testvm applet shows that you are using JRE 1.5.0 or 1.5.0_01, you need to upgrade to JRE 5.0 Update 2. Please download and install the offline installation package here:
