Installing Java

   

What is the automatic method for downloading and installing Java for Windows through Microsoft Internet Explorer?

The procedure to install the JRE broadly consists of:

Download and Install
  1. It is recommended, before you proceed with online installation you may want to disable your Internet Firewall. In some cases the default Firewall settings are set to reject all automatic or online installations such as Java online installation that you intend to perform currently. Also, if Firewall is not configured appropriately it may stall the download/install operation of Java under certain conditions. Please, refer to your specific Internet Firewall manual for instructions on how to disable your Internet Firewall.
  2. Go to Java.com
  3. Click on the Free Java Download button, and start the installation process
  4. If you are using Internet Explorer on Windows XP with Service Pack 2 (SP2), you might need to complete the following steps to install ActiveX Control:


  1. Click on the browser toolbar to install ActivX Control

  1. Confirm to install ActivX Control by clicking on Install ActiveX Control

  1. A Security Warning dialog box appears. Click on Install to start the installation process


  1. The JRE installation starts:


The installer unpacks the files needed for the installation, which takes less than a minute. After unpacking the installation files, a welcome screen is displayed, the installer presents an option to view the license agreement. You may choose to Accept the license agreement and continue the installation process

Sun Microsystems has partnered with companies that offer various products. The installer may present you with option to install these programs when you install JRE. Make your selections by clicking on the check box next to programs that interest you, and click on Next to continue the installation.
Note: The screenshot below is used for reference. Actual product offerings can be seen during the installation process.


Third Party Installations

The installer displays a Custom Setup screen that allows you to choose program features to set up. We recommend that you keep the default settings, unless you are an advanced user who wants more precise control over the components that will be installed.

After ensuring that the desired program features are selected, click the Next button to continue with the installation. Now that you have given the installer all of the information it needs to proceed, progress boxes track the installation process.



A few brief dialogs confirm the last steps of the installation process, and a concluding message appears with the confirmation "Thank You!."
