How do I troubleshoot problems running Java applets in AOL browser?

SYMPTOMS

The AOL browser is not able to properly run Java based chat programs, applets or games.


CAUSE

AOL browser runs a saved copy of each applet from a cache folder on the computer, so the applet now running in the browser may not be the most current version.


SOLUTION

Use these suggestions to help resolve AOL browser issues.
Clear the web cache and delete temporary files
  1. Start AOL browser.
  2. Click Settings on the Toolbar.
  3. Click Internet [Web] Options link in the Essentials list.
  4. Click General tab.
  5. Under Temporary internet files section Delete Cookies and Delete Files.
  6. Click OK.
Optimize your AOL browser settings
  1. Start AOL browser.
  2. Click Settings on the Toolbar.
  3. Click Internet [Web] Options link in the Essentials list.
  4. Click AOL Browser tab.
  5. Check radio button Never compress graphics
    This selection eliminates conflicts with images displaying correctly.
  6. Click OK.
