Runescape Applet Problems

SYMPTOMS

While trying to load a Runescape game, an error message exception:java.lang. NullPointer Exception appears at the bottom of the browser window
Error message: Applet Loading Failed appears at the bottom of the browser window

CAUSE

Problem with AOL caching of jar files
Older JRE version fails to load applet in the browser

SOLUTION

AOL has confirmed that this is an issue with their caching servers and they are in the process of fixing this problem. They have already provided a workaround which will allow users to play games but download will be significantly slower.
Make sure you are running the latest version of JRE. Latest version can be downloaded from: Manual download page To check if you already have latest JRE version installed and configured properly, run the Test VM applet. If you can see the dancing Duke animated image in the applet above, then the JRE is installed and configured correctly on your system.
