How do I enable and view the Java Console?

The Java Console provides information about the Java version, user home directory, and any error message that occurs while running an applet or application.

You can enable the Java Console for the Windows platform using the Java Control Panel or the Java icon displayed in the Windows system tray.

Enable the Java Console in the Java Control Panel

  1. In the Java Control Panel, click the Advanced tab.
  2. Expand the Java console option.
  3. Select Show Console and click OK.

NOTE: These instructions apply if you've chosen to place the Java icon in the system tray through the Java Control Panel (Advanced tab)
  1. Locate Java icon in the System tray
  2. Right click on Java icon
  3. Select Open Console.
