SYMPTOMS

Java installation has not completed and an error appears:
Error 1714. The older version of Java cannot be removed.
CAUSE

Error 1714 is an Install Shield error code. It indicates that the installation process has failed.
SOLUTION

Please follow the steps below for resolving this issue.
  1. Remove any traces of the failed Java installation by uninstalling Java
  2. Run the Microsoft utility to repair corrupted registry keys that prevents programs from being completely uninstalled or blocking new installations and updates.
  3. Download and install the Windows offline installer package.
