Some Java applications will request to run using an old version of Java that may have been current when the application was created, but has now been superceded by newer versions that offer improved security and performance.

If you are being asked to run an application on an older version of Java and this version is installed on your machine, we strongly recommend trying the application with the most current version of Java installed on your system first.

Mac OS X

On Mac OS X, only one version of Java is available to run from your browser and it is important for security and performance to keep your Java up-to-date with the latest version. If an application is requesting an version of Java that is older than the version you have installed, it is recommended to run it on the version you have or to update to the latest version and then run the application.

If the application does not run properly, we recommend that you contact the publisher of this application and request that they upgrade it to run with the latest version of Java.
