This article applies to:
- Platform(s): Windows 10, Windows 7, Windows 8, Windows Vista, Windows XP
- Java version(s): 7.0, 8.0
SYMPTOMS
The Add button on the Exception Site List is grayed out, not allowing users to enter URLs for the sites.
CAUSE
The cause of the issue could be:
- Roaming Profiles may be enabled.
- Users do not have write access to the
deployment.exceptions.sites
file.
SOLUTION
Check to see if Roaming Profiles are enabled
- Launch the Java Control Panel.
- Go to the Advanced tab.
- Scroll down to the Miscellaneous section and verify if the check box for Store user settings in the roaming profile is checked. If checked, you can Uncheck the check box and see if the problem goes away. You may now be able to add URLs to the Exception Site List.
- If you need to use Roaming Profiles you can go ahead and Check the check box again.
Confirm you have write access to the deployment.exception.sites file
- Go to
c:\Users\
[User Folder]\AppData\LocalLow\Sun\Java\Deployment\security
- Right click on the exception.sites file to check the Properties.
- Click on the Security tab to see the access rights for the user.
If you do not have write permission to this file then the Add button on the Exception Site List will be grayed out. - Contact your system administrator to request required access.
